High Larynx

喉位偏高

The larynx sits high; the voice easily turns tight and sharp.

In One Sentence

The larynx sits high during phonation. Only the "high" position can be reliably distinguished for now (low and mid positions need a personal baseline), so only that tier is detected.

How to Read It

Watch the larynx-related charts (Side Profile / Throat Voice Warning). Larynx position is estimated from F3+F4; the hint appears when the estimate is clearly high (roughly F3+F4 ≥ 6.95kHz).

Why Does This Happen?

CauseDescription
Insufficient closure, extrinsic compensationThe folds can't close enough on their own, so the larynx rises to "help"
Excessive air pressureToo much subglottal pressure pushes the larynx up
Reaching for pitchForcing up toward the passaggio drags the larynx along

How to Improve

  • Yawn-sigh: let the larynx settle naturally
  • Straw phonation: balance the subglottal pressure and keep the larynx steady
  • Don't force high notes: when you feel the larynx about to rise, drop half a step and reach the note by thinning instead
