In the low range the vocal folds are too thin and lack mass, making the voice thin and weak.
In a Nutshell
In the low range the vocal folds are too thin and lack mass, making the voice thin and weak.
How to Identify
In the low range (roughly F0 < 250Hz), watch the H1-H2 chart. If H1-H2 is elevated (> 8dB), the folds are too thin in the low range — insufficient contraction (TA).
Why Does This Happen?
| Cause | Description |
|---|---|
| Insufficient TA activation | The thyroarytenoid doesn't contract enough to maintain fold mass |
| Habitual head/falsetto | Singing the low range with a thin configuration |
| Fold condition | Naturally thin folds lacking chest-voice mass |
