The tongue swings forward and back while you sing, and vowels and resonance wobble with it.
In One Sentence
The tongue position (estimated from F2) swings forward and back during phonation, so vowel color and resonance wobble along with it.
How to Read It
Watch the Tongue Position chart. With pitch roughly steady, the hint appears when the tongue parameter swings back and forth within about a second. Note: when you deliberately change vowels (a-i-u legato, for example), the tongue is supposed to move — that's normal and may be falsely flagged.
Why Does This Happen?
| Cause | Description |
|---|---|
| Tense tongue root | The root can't release and flops around with pitch changes |
| Jaw compensation | Using the jaw and tongue to help articulate or reach notes |
| Unstable vowel habits | The same vowel lands in a different spot every time |
