In the low range the folds stay too thin and lack mass; the voice sounds thin and weightless.
In One Sentence
In the low range the folds are too thin and lack mass, so the voice sounds thin and light.
How to Read It
In the low range (roughly F0 < 250Hz), watch the H1-H2 chart. If H1-H2 stays high (> 8dB), the folds are already too thin in the low range — the contraction (TA) is insufficient.
Why Does This Happen?
| Cause | Description |
|---|---|
| Under-activated contraction | The thyroarytenoid isn't contracting enough to keep the folds thick |
| Habitual head voice / falsetto | Singing the low range in a thin mode out of habit |
| Fold characteristics | The folds are naturally thinner, with less chest-voice mass |
