What it is
The characteristic energy signature that appears in the voice when the extrinsic laryngeal muscles — those around the neck and jaw that should never lead phonation — join in squeezing. It is not one single frequency but a set of spectral traces left by the squeezed state.
Where it comes from
A composite indicator estimated from several features: anomalous low-frequency energy, formants pressed down as a whole, and changes in spectral tilt.
How to read it
High values mean the neck is “singing” instead of the vocal folds; persistently high values point to passaggio problems or volume ambition outrunning technique. When the Throat Voice Warning exceeds its threshold, the Phonation Balance score is docked directly.
